The Performing Right Society

http://www.prs.co.uk

PRS is the UK association of composers, songwriters and music publishers. It administers the "performing right" in their music. Whenever copyright music is heard in public the people who own the copyright in the work are entitled by law to give permission and should get paid by the music user. But, the people who create and publish the music need help to give that permission (licence their music) and to collect the fees due. So they give PRS the right to do both on their behalf.

Mechanical-Copyright Protection Society Ltd (MCPS)

http://www.mcps.co.uk

MCPS is an organisation representing thousands of composers and publishers of music. Acting as an agent on behalf of its members, MCPS negotiates agreements with those who wish to record music, ensuring that copyright owners are rewarded for the use of their music. It collects and then distributes the "mechanical" royalties which are generated from the recording of music onto many different formats, including CDs, cassettes, videos, audio visual, multimedia (including web sites) and broadcast material.
